By this time, you are probably wondering how I make use of garlic around our house. There are two different categories of use – internal and external. I’ll list them separately so its a little bit easier to read through. Obviously, the best way to administer garlic internally is to eat it! Internal Garlic Remedies

Garlic Enema. Yes, you read that correctly. I said Garlic Enema! My family gets the same exact look on their faces as you have right now when I say it to them too. Except, their eyes have a little more fear in them because they know I’m coming after them with the bulb syringe! Oh, the life of an aspiring herbalist! In all seriousness, the garlic enema is one home remedy that has worked wonders for us, specifically in the area of fevers. I’ll put the recipe for the garlic solution and the procedure in a pdf file for you to download and print out. Click here to download that file.

Garlic Recipes. There are innumerable amounts of recipes that call for garlic and even for raw garlic. Your main goal when ingesting garlic for medicinal purposes is to eat it raw. Cooking or baking or sauteing the garlic can ruin the allicin which is the power behind garlic. Here are some recipes for Garlic Toast, Garlic Salsa (which is just plain yummy no matter how you feel), Garlic Lemonade (good for sore throats among other ailments), Garlic Honey (good as a cough syrup), Garlic Tea, and Garlic Elixir. (The titles to all the recipes are clickable and lead you to a pdf document that you can download and save or print.)
External Garlic Remedies

GOOT. Garlic, Oil (coconut), Oil (olive) Treatment. This is essentially a salve that you make which is thick at warm room temperature and solid when kept in the refrigerator. The internet and health forums abound with testimonials to the benefits of GOOT. We have rubbed it on the chest and back when one of the children is sick with a cough, on the throat, on the feet. The garlic oil travels throughout the body even when just rubbed on the feet. I have put GOOT on their feet in the evening before they go to sleep and they wake up in the morning with garlic breath! Garlic Oil. You’ll want to be careful when preparing garlic oil because it needs to be warmed a bit in order to get the benefits of the garlic into the oil. Just don’t heat it too much and you should be fine. I always leave my burner temperature on low. Click here to download the recipe card.

Garlic Clove. Because garlic will have a tendency to burn, I have not used a garlic clove in direct contact with any of my children’s skin. That said, I have heard many stories of people using a raw garlic clove to treat everything from earaches (just peel the clove and stick it in your ear) to sore throats (peel the clove and hold between your cheek and your teeth) to vaginal yeast infections.

Garlic Honey. After you make a batch of garlic honey, you can use it to spread on sores and wounds and you can even use it as an acne treatment.
It seems like this is such a short list considering all the benefits that you can reap from adding garlic to your daily diet. But, rest assured that you only need a few different preparations of garlic to use in many different circumstances and with many different ages or levels of pickiness! I hope you’ve learned a little bit about garlic and what it can do for your health and the health of your family! Until next time, keep on growing!
