I hope you have been enjoying this Turning Techniques series! But, most of all, I hope you’ve been learning and trying some techniques! If you have used any of these ideas and had success in turning your little one, we would sure love to hear about it!
The next topic in the series has to do with the swimming pool. It is another spin off the same idea – being upside down.
Get to your nearest swimming pool or other body of water that goes to your shoulders. You may have some success just being in the water, as the bouancy takes weight off your stomach muscles and may stimulate your baby to turn to a head down position.
Grab some kind of floatation device and just hang on it in the water for a little while, with your belly fully submerged. Relax! Move around and enjoy being weightless in the water. Soak up the sunshine!
If nothing happens, try a headstand under the water.
- Take a deep breath and plug your nose, if necessary.
- Dive down to touch the floor or ground.
- Kick your feet above you.
- Stay there as long as is comfortable for you, then come up for air.
- Take a nice long break in between headstands – don’t cause yourself to get too out of breath.
- Try as many times as you are willing, at least two or three.
I headed to my local YMCA to use their swimming pool in the wee hours of the morning so that I could get it done before my husband had to be off for work. They offer a $10 family day pass that you can use all day. I planned to bring my three children back with me later in the day, but we never did get to it. Call your YMCA and see what they have to offer.
It was very nice to be there so early in the morning because it was very quiet, there were very few people around. I would think that if you have to be on your feet for very long during the day, it may feel wonderful to get into the pool at the end of the day.
It wasn’t too hard to get into an upside down position in the pool, it was just hard to stay upside down once I got there!

Just wanted to let you know that the swimming pool technique worked for me. Just floating around did the trick.
